Remember when you failed an examination. How many people recall that, your class, friends, relatives? You failed to make it to the IITs or IIMs. Who remembers. How many times have you had the feeling of being the best in your class, school , university, state….., you failed to get a visa stamped this quarter…, you missed a promotion this year…, how did it feel when you dad told you in your early twenties that you are good for nothing…..and now your boss tell you the same…

You keep introspecting and go into a shell when people most of whom don’t matter a dime in your life criticize you, back bite you, make fun of you. You are left sad and shattered and you cry when your own kin scoffs at you. You say I am feeling low today. It takes a lot from us to come out of these everyday situations and move on. A lot??? really?

Now here’s a man standing on the third man boundary in the last over of a world cup match. The bowler just has to bowl sensibly to win this game. What the man at the boundary sees is 4 rank bad bowls bowled without any sense of focus, planning or regret. India loses, yet again in those circumstances when he has done just about everything right.

He does not cry. Does not show any emotion. Just keeps his head down and leaves the field. He has seen these failures for 22 years now. And not just his class, relatives, friends but the whole world has seen these failures. We are too immature to even imagine what goes on in that mind and heart of his. That’s why I would never want to be Sachin.

True, he has single handedly lifted to moods of this entire nation umpteen number of times. He has been an inspiration to rise above our mediocrity. Nobody who has ever lifted the willow even comes close to this man’s genius. His dedication and metal strength is unparallel. This is specially for those people who would have made fun of him again last night when India lost. They are people who are mediocre in their own lives. Who just scoff at others to create cheap fun. Who have lived in a small hole throughout their lives and thought they have seen the oceans.

Think about the man himself. He is 37 years of age. He has been playing almost non stop for 22 years. The way he was running and diving around the field last night would have put 22 year olds to shame. The way he played the best opening quickies in the world was breathtaking. He just keeps getting better which is by the way humanly impossible. Its not for nothing that people call him GOD.

But still I don’t want to be in those shoes. We struggle in keeping our monotonous lives straight, lives which affect a limited number of people. Imagine what would be the magnitude of the inner struggle for him, pain both mental and physical, tears that have frozen with time, knees and ankles and every other joint in the body that is either bandaged or needs to be attended to every night, eyes that don’t sleep before a big game, bats that have scored 99 international tons and still see expectations from a billion people.
And he just converts those expectations into reality. We watch in awe, feel privileged.
Well I think its time that his team realizes that enough is enough. They have an obligation, not towards their country alone but towards sachin. They need to win this one for him. Stay assured that he himself will still deliver and leave no stone unturned to make sure India wins this cup.
This is not just a game, and he is not just a sportsman. Its much more than this. Words fail here…..

Why should you be part of the Ford Figo Discover Smart Drive??

New Places to Visit , Sponsored Vacation, Driving Fun all these might be few of the many obvious reasons why you want to be part of DSD

As DSDians (Gujarat) – Myself and Radha discovered a new dimension to why one should look for this unique drive organized by Ford

Our definition of DSD!!

This is a road trip where the couple feels like there he/she owns the road while on road, feels like he/she is a celebrity when in front of media, radio and press, feels like there is no other couple in the world that is having as much fun as they are during the 4-5 days of the drive. In short it is recreational excursion which is not impromptu unlike any other road trip.

Long definition but I still can add on to it J J J

Unique Characteristics of the Drive

Because it is Ford’s event!!!

Simple fact that it is a n event conducted by Ford is compelling enough reason to be part of this drive – for me Ford was the company I always associated with doing a lot to developing cars for the masses across world. So we thought that the drive would be lot more fun only because Ford is managing the event.

Experience that otherwise will not be part of our life in any way!!

Any middle class couple can afford to plan a vacation any where in India, but one cannot plan for vacation that is well covered by the media and press alike. That is life time experience, where in you get to meet the best dealers in the state and get to know on a high level how a series of events can be planned and managed to make it look like a the most happening thing.

Face book Celebrity!!!

Yes literally this is an event which uses FB to the maximum J We gained instant celebrity status on the already >35K old Figo page. Keeping the group updated on what we are doing and getting updates on what people think we are doing is truly a amazing feeling, that too almost real time. Not only the Figo group especially our family and friends who were all excited to see what all places we are going and kept on posting wishes was really a out of the world state to be in. Thanks to Mark Zukerberg for making FB such an awesome application

The Hospitality of the Dealerships!!!

This was something you well not get to experience even if you are Henry Ford. The warmth that the people showed as if we were the most important people there and getting know each and every minute details of our requirements was very touching. Each and every dealer has a very special way of showing their concern. In Rajkot we got amazing help on getting used to the media and press, besides all the great Gujarati food served by management. In Ahmedabad Radha was totally flattered by the vintage Ford which we got to take imaginary ride with. In Surat we were awestruck by the way we were taken care of as they helped to purchase, bargain sarees for Radha and get to have some mouth watering street food all in a day’s time.

After the week long drive when we were back at home and driving our own Figo we thought that all the drive characteristics are designed to suit the Figo. This is what makes great products, as mentioned our beloved first car Figo is a great car

  • Because it is Ford
  • Life time experience to drive a Ford
  • Yes you feel like a celebrity
  • Great hospitality the Figo provides with all the incredible features

3 New Borns

All firsts .. a divine feeling!!

The moment a child is born a mother is born..a father is born..they never existed before…seeing Bheem (My Brother’s Son) who is just few days old the amazing feeling of parenthood that my brother’s family is experiencing right now made me feel that they are starting new allover again…from being husband and wife to parents of newly born I really can’t imagine all that happened..seeing my brother feed his son and gazing at him at his son as if he has come from out of the everywhere and into here..yes true new born babies are angels who begins the world allover again..listening to my brother saying that he is getting know what all I need slowly..makes me realize he is also only a few days old father

Eager to meet whom!!

Its been almost 5 years since I met my brother in person..though I often speak to him and watch him live on video (thanks to Skype)..I was always looking to meet him..but now suddenly the anxiety is for Mr Bheem .. see how lucky the little angels are without even knowing that they are the most happening in the family..they enjoy all the limelight

Welcoming to his own space!!

This funny world welcome’s him to create his own space..I wish he will go at his own pace not joining the rat race :)

Doing the unnecessary a great feeling!!

Wishing him good night..even he is asleep; Making all the monkey actions thinking he will enjoy even though he can only best see a distance up to 8-14 inches initially..Playing loud songs even if human voices, especially Mom’s and Dad’s, are a baby’s favorite “music.” all these unnecessary funny things are a great a feeling for the new born parents.

The wish to become good parents !!!

I have closely watched people bringing up their new born under guidance of doctors grand moms and great grand moms..but I always felt becoming a good parent means much more than knowing a lot about babies. All new parents work at knowing, understanding, and loving their babies. I always felt looking at others in my family that the process of attachment-the work that parents and babies do together to form a deep and lasting love is what becoming a family is all about..

I wish all the new born parents and new born angels…a happy and delightful future..while the parents might have gained a sense of the miraculous, spiritual and a deeper meaning to life..the new born baby will bask in all the limelight…at-least for the next few years :) :)

While driving to office in my new car I can’t help but think of various things happening around…might be because of the notorious Bangalore traffic where you happen to be stand still most of the time than moving..

This time it was Street Names…it suddenly struck me…when I was crossing MG Road..how did Anil Kumble come in between Mahatma Gandhi..there was not any connection at all..while one was a Legend..former is a living Legend (am not sure how you define Legend) it was then I thought of doing little research on the topic few cities that came to my mind were Maximum city Mumbai (I love Mumbai and I love to call it Bombay!!!), Chennai (City with nativity), My own city Bangalore (of course not a garden city anymore) , Kolkata (Laid back, crowded and fun loving city)

Naming and Renaming .. Taking Indian Streets for granted !!

With repeated renaming over the changing course of political history, Indian street names contain many layers of the nation’s history

The histories of Indian cities are contained in the names of their streets and squares. These come in layers that have to be peeled off, one by one, to reveal the names that once lay below. A street might have been named after a colonial ruler, later after a Congress nationalist; still later, after a local or regional hero. Or even a local international hero: as in the case of Calcutta’s Harrington Street, which was renamed after Ho Chi Minh Sarani only because communists found themselves in power for first time that Harrinton street was renamed after a communist hero

Maximum city and maximum street names!!!

Mumbai, a place that perhaps has had more reason to change street names than any other. For no other Indian city has had such a tumultuous modern history, no other such a multitude of castes, communities and special interests to be satisfied. Fortunately, the city’s ecology here comes to the aid of politics and culture ? for no other Indian city has so many streets and intersections to play around with.

The names that Mumbai’s margs and chowks carry are a curious mixture of chauvinism, courage and corruption. For example the intersection opposite the grand old building of Bombay University is named “Dr G.S. Ghurye Chowk”. A long-time professor of sociology at Bombay University, Ghurye was a formidable scholar, but also something of a Hindu parochialist. This happened when the Shiv Sena was in power, people like A.A.A. Fyzee. Fyzee were not considered at all a Bombay resident as well as also from the same university , an eminent professor of law , great tennis player and secretary of Bombay cricket association and the author of classic works on Islamic jurisprudence.

Infact each street or chowk/square in old Mumbai have two names – old & new,  Mumbai CST (Chatrapati Shivaji Terminal) is still VT (Victoria Terminal) for many of the residents in Mumbai

Bangalore – Granite city, garden city, silicon valley..what next !!!

Few Cities in the World has the power to attract and motivate a casual visitor to move there permanently. Bangalore is one of those rare cities which makes people who are new to the City to call themselves proud Bangaloreans…I am a proud Bangalorean

Many roads in Bangalore had European names in the past like the South Parade Road, Albert Victor Road, Hardinge Road, Grant Road.etc., The names of several roads in Bangalore have been derived from military nomenclature.

Mahatma Gandhi Road or the MG Raod was called as South Parade Roadand was perhaps the first road to be given a new nomenclature after Independence. Infantry Road became Bhagavan Mahaveer Road in 2004. (But still it is infantry road for me and hope so for most of the Bangaloreans)

The Chamarajendra Park was renamed as Cubbon Park after Sir Mark Cubbon, the British Commissioner of Mysore, in the mid-19th century. Fraser Town, which had been named after Sir Stuart Fraser, the scholar who was a tutor of Maharaja Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV, is now Pulakeshinagar. Hardinge Road was the old name of Pampa Mahakavi Road. For sometime, Cunningham Road, the crowded bazaar it is today, was being called Sampangi Ramaswamy Temple Road. Race Course Road (though there is no race course now) became Devraj Urs Road and Grant Road became Vittal Mallya Road

Again, where else but in Bangalore would you find a major junction named after a living (indeed, still playing) cricketer?

Chennai..it is all about MK (DMK, ADMK, PMK etc etc) !!!

When the vigorously anti-Brahmin DMK first came to office in Madras, it removed caste names from the streets in Mylapore, those mostly honouring Brahmin patriarchs of the recent past. Thus “Kasturi Ranga Iyengar Road”, became “K.R. Road”. And “Iyer Street” became, simply, “Street”.

While some believe Chennai got its name from the ruler of Kalahasti (Chennaiappa Naicker) few believe it to be originated from Chenna Kesava Perumal Temple (Which is considered to be face of the city…by the way chenni in Tamil means face)

Again the controversy of renaming of street names rotates around the MKs of Tamilnadu..

Future street names!!

Sania & Sohaib Cross roads, SG Road (Sonia Gandhi Road), Kasab Station Road, Naxal link road, IPL Modi road etc etc

Model : ZXI 1.4 diesel

It is just 230 KMs old and this is my first car.

First reactions!!

Figo is my first car and I never drove any other car before..only test drove Swift…so my initial reactions might be disagreed amongst most of the viewers..but still I hope there are many like me who want to buy their first car..so here are my reactions…Not for the flamboyant..it is for the practical driver who looks for functionality in the car..Figo scores high on all the practical aspects..space, price, features, pleasant looks, great brand..all the reactions were before I test drove the Figo..

Comfort of driving!!

Space and superior suspension are key to the comfort of driving a Figo.. suspension of the vehicle is awesome..comparable to any sedan under 9 lakhs..lighter steering..smooth clutch..and even smoother gear shift..all this in super cool AC unit…makes the Figo a cool city car

Features!!

I am loving the blue-tooth enabled 4-speaker audio system..it is superb..picking calls..calling..redialing..all this with out even touching my phone..this is one feature which is truly neighbors envy and owners pride.

The largest boot space..and not so prominant but useful features like distance to empty..electrical adjustable mirrors..remote keyless entry..add to the feeling of owning a great car

Performance!!

I am really poor at rating the car in terms of performance..there are better sites which rate the car with decent scores in terms of performance..for me as novice driver..I thought the car is really smooth..and picking up at >1500 rpm was not that bad..of course not as great as fiat engine..but still it is fun to drive..especially on highways

Fuel Economy!!

I know it is too early for me to review the mileage of the Figo (Just 230 Kms old)..but will have to say..I noticed a 14-15 Km per litre  mileage in city conditions (it might be +/- 1-2 KM) but still it is awesome mileage for my kind of driving..By the way I am not a great driver ;)

Service of Ford (Metro Ford – Bangalore) !!

I saw many posts in Face book saying lot about issues with delivery etc..but I have to say..I wanted the vehicle before 31st as the road tax was going to add 8-9k to the cost of my car in Bangalore..Metro Ford was very very prompt in completing the formalities by 31st march..so that need not spend an extra penny than the price promised..took the delivery on 1st April..I am very happy with the Ford service..and 2 days later I called the 24×7 service for checking out the issue with my rear window..as it was not opening..they came down to my place and explained me about the child lock..which is again a very pleasing effort from the service people..hats off to the service..

Accessories!!

Ford scored zero on this space..no accessories available with dealer nor with any other automobile shops..have to wait to get the essential packs..and see the alloy wheels option they were providing..still waiting to see the quality of accessories

Negatives!!

No power windows to the rear windows..low roof height for the rear seating..were the prominent negatives in the car..they didn’t bother me becoz I thought 90% of the time it is the driver and co-passenger will be in the car..so why care about the rear seating ;)

Rating 8.5 0n 10 !!

For a diesel car costing 5.87 Lakhs with the best space and features in that class I give Ford Figo a 8.5 on 10..a great value for money car..Go Figo !!!

Ever since Karl Benz built the first automobile in 1885 a number of developments in field followed resulting in around 75 million vehicles being sold across the world..

I started with Kinetic Honda !!

I didn’t own the first automobile I drove – but 90% of the odometer reading shows my miles, my grandfather owned it for over 11 years now, he still drives it, I enjoyed the thrill of moving effortlessly, without even changing the gear and not bothering about the gas it drank (grandpa used to fill the petrol for me)..I loved the way I explored Pune on the 2 wheeler..slowly I started to look at my friends super bikes (even a 100 cc splendor looked sporty to me then)..once I got used to getting the thrill of shifting gears and driving at higher speeds at much better stability than a scooter..I wanted to own a bike..that was my first aspirational automobile…

Being Loyal to Honda (First Mo-bike)

It took me 1.5 years after my post graduation to own a motorcycle…I didn’t have anyother brand in my mind other than a Honda..not because they produce best bikes but only being loyal to them…1 year later I bought a Honda again for my wife..again being loyal..because we enjoyed the quality..

100% of the miles from both of my 2 wheelers are driven in pathetic Bangalore traffic..that made me sick and tired of owning a 2 wheeler..and as miles passed by I thought what have I achieved by being loyal to Honda..nothing..then I realized 7 years of driving Honda was an achievement in itself…now it is time to move on to a 4 wheeler…but which make of four wheeler

> 100 models , variants in each model..petrol/diesel..which one to buy !!!

I was very new to car terminology..torque turbo lag..RPM..gear shift..smooth clutch..fun to drive..good handling..wheel base..engine spec..etc etc..for me any car looked an utility .. until I started looking to buy one for my family..suddenly VFM (value for money) was the key word for me..I first free zed on my budget..looked around for cars in  the budget..(only a dozen cars fitted in it)…I had a great advantage of being a very novice driver..I only started learning after I booked my vehicle..till then I never sat in driver seat of any car…it took 2 months to own a 4 wheeler after my booking…After a research of 2 weeks me and my wife decided on Swift VDI..I was not 100% convinced on the price of vehicle..only by the performance of the vehicle in the market we had to take the decision (1 out of every 4 cars in that price range was a swift in India)..I was given a 3 month waiting period..which I thought was ridiculous..and then came the Ford Figo .. the coolest car available in market..and again VFM was the best I could find..and the joy of owning a ford as my first car was amazing…it is just 200 KMs old and I am loving it

Gone Are The Days !!

Gone are the days we used to share everything (literally everything :) )…Gone are the days we used to stay together…Gone are the days we used to be called a cool gang..Gone are the days we used to dream of meeting movie stars..Gone are the days we used to be so possessive about our dominance in college..Gone are the days we used to bunk classes for no reason..Gone are those days when used to not miss watching any movie(watching a movie on second day was a sin :) )..Gone are the days we used get drunk in Dhabas..until we empty our pockets..Gone are the days we used to night out to roam in busiest places of the city..Gone are the days we used chat about charming ladies in our college(I am being little decent here:))..Gone are the days we used to talk about breakups and makeups in college..Gone are all those beautiful lazy days..

Is the ship sinking !!

Very famously quoted “Friendship is a ship that never sinks”..Yes it is true..I only can say it travels slowly in later stages of life :)…what keeps it moving are the beautiful lazy days we had during our schooling and college..We might not hang out very often..We might not share everything or anything..We might not even have a chat on phone for a long long time..What keeps things intact are the memories..When ever you pass by the famous bus stop where all the fun took place..When ever you pass by a happening college..When ever you see a Rancho on the silver screen..

What’s up now..where are we  !!

We are hanging up in a friend’s Cafe world having french onion soup..and paying him only to ensure he ends up one fine day in my Cafe having Noodle soup…I help my friends fertilize their crops..I help him in developing his social network..I watch him developing his social network..I endorse him..I write testimonials..I poke on their wall..I scrap on their book..I comment on his latest snaps..I recommend a book..What not I do all those things which I even did dream of doing..now we are connected..we used to hang around in a group of ten..now we hang around in group of hundreds..I even keep in touch with less important people in my life..the very thought of that amazes me..Orkuting,Tweeting and Poking are part of our life..can’t escape from the reality of virtual world..

Am I Really in Touch !!

I only feel that, am partially in touch with most of my buddies..I don’t often get to share my friend’s true feelings (obviously everything can’t be tweeted or scraped)..I get to know their status (Married, Committed, Single yet to mingle :) )..but don’t get to know..how happily married they are or when was he last committed :) .. the perception or a feeling of being in touch with friends on line keeps me postponing chances of us getting together real time..I sometimes feel ashamed of saying to people that I haven’t met my close buddies in college since ages..even though we stay in the same city :( :(  … this reminds of a cliched saying “something is better than nothing” !!!
